FIRE
It started as a vague
proximity: a sense that
something, this blaze of
light might be approaching.
Then the touch and the
fire: the fingertips drumming
my spine sent flame in
a cracked spark beyond me.
The line of the fire meant
only one thing: she was
behind me. Turning, I caught
the sun of a smile: the
universe burned white; I
wondered if at that moment
I might burn with it.
